What is Neuromuscular Therapy?
Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) is a precise and thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using specific, step-by-step protocols to produce relief of various conditions a client may ask the therapists to help alleviate. These manually delivered techniques are designed around evidence-based clinical research and are extremely effective in producing desired outcomes in a relatively short time frame.
Who can benefit from NMT?
NMT is extremely effective for clients who come to the center with chronic pain and is often very successful in reducing or eliminating the condition causing the discomfort, even if the condition is longstanding. NMT can also be beneficial for acute injuries, post-surgical care, to improve performance in sport or dance, and to prevent injuries due to these activities.
NMT can be used to help resolve:
- Ischemia – obstructed blood flow to tissues
- Myofascial trigger points – overly sensitive areas within muscles that can refer discomfort or pain throughout the body
- Neural entrapment – pressure on specific nerves by muscles and other soft tissues
- Nerve compression – pressure on nerves by cartilage or discs
